International Travel

The International Travel Program provides opportunities for members to interact with colleagues abroad, learn about schooling in other nations, and sample the culture in various countries. As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, educators facing common challenges can learn much from sharing ideas and debating policies with their counterparts in other countries through this professional development program.

International Travel Scholarships

In 1980 Gerald Read and his wife, Vickie, established an endowment to provide scholarships that support members who want to participate in this travel program. Pi Lambda Theta members may apply for one of the Gerald Howard Read International Travel Scholarships to help offset the cost of traveling on this program.

October 2012 PDK Study Trip to Finland/Sweden

Enrollment for this trip has closed.

Group members will enjoy the opportunity to connect and converse with European colleagues on a 10-day study tour to schools in Finland and Sweden. This trip will allow them to experience the sites and culture of northern Europe while earning valuable professional development credit. Travelers will visit many famous sites such as: Temppeliaukio Church, the Finnish National Board of Education, the Finnish Ministry of Education, Stockholm’s Gamla Stan, City Hall, where the Nobel Prize is awarded, Skansen, and the famous Vasa Ship.

If enough members are interested, PDK will offer a second trip to Finland/Sweden in March 2013! This trip will include all the same features, such as airfare, lodging, most meals, sightseeing visits, full-time services of a tour director, and—most important—school visits and other education-related activities. (Unfortunately, due to increased fuel expenses, the cost for the March 2013 could be slightly more, and there will be no scholarship assistance for this trip.)

If you would be interested in participating in this trip, email intltravel@pdkintl.org.
