Georgia Sachs Adams grants are awarded to PLT members to defray the cost of attending conferences to make scholarly presentations. The grants were established in 2008. They are sustained by a restricted fund established in the Pi Lambda Theta Educational Endowment with a bequest from Lorraine Mathies to honor the memory of Past International President Georgia Sachs Adams.
Amount
Up to $1,000 will be granted to defray the cost of transportation, lodging, and conference registration.
Applicant Criteria
An applicant must have had a presentation accepted at a regional, national, or international education conference and have been a member of Pi Lambda Theta for at least one year before submitting the application. Members of the board of directors of Pi Lambda Theta, Inc. or the Pi Lambda Theta Educational Endowment are not eligible.
Application Requirements
The application must include a:
- Pi Lambda Theta universal application/nomination cover sheet
- copy of the proposal that was accepted for presentation
- copy of the acceptance notification
- letter from the applicant’s department chair, dean, or other university official confirming that the presentation has scholarly merit and contributes materially to the applicant’s career development
- projected budget for travel, lodging, and conference registration
- 100-word statement of what is to be gained by the presentation
No additional copies of the above material are required; however, Pi Lambda Theta reserves the right to require up to 10 copies of material that is not readily reproducible. Application materials are not returned.
Selection and Notification
Recipients are selected by Georgia Sachs Adams grant committee, which is appointed by the board of directors of the Pi Lambda Theta Educational Endowment. Selection is based on the quality of the proposal and the reputation and scope of the organization sponsoring the conference.
