Bring PLT to my University

Starting a direct honors program at your university is the easiest way to bring Pi Lambda Theta’s benefits to your students. In fact, establishing a direct honors program can be done in three simple steps.

STEP 1: Obtain a list of eligible students from your registrar’s office.

Membership is open to any graduate or undergraduate student who
intends to pursue a career in education, has achieved a cumulative
grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, and is currently
enrolled in a qualified degree program.

Graduate students must have completed at least two courses in a:

  • graduate degree program, or
  • post-baccalaureate certification or credential program.

Undergraduate students must have achieved at least sophomore standing in a baccalaureate degree program.

Student lists must be submitted electronically.

STEP 2: Send the list of qualified students to the international office of Pi Lambda Theta.

Once we receive your list, PLT will mail personalized invitations with a brochure and an application to each student. Also, the school is welcome to send more than one list each year. While we encourage you to submit your list early in the fall so that students can take full advantage of all member benefits, there is no deadline.

You can send the lists whenever it is convenient for you and your registrar. However, the sooner qualified students are offered membership, the sooner they can begin receiving professional learning resources that will help them become better students and jumpstart their careers in education.

Each year, we will contact you again to obtain lists of newly eligible students. If you operate on a quarter, trimester, or semester calendar and would prefer to be contacted more often, we can accommodate that.

STEP 3: Pi Lambda Theta can provide your college or university with a list of students accepting the invitation for membership as often as the school desires.

That’s all there is to it!

If you are ready to participate or have additional questions, contact the international office at pilambdatheta@pdkintl.org or call 800-766-1156.
