Why should I start a direct honors program on my campus?
Starting a Direct Honors program through Pi Lambda Theta at your school allows you to both recognize your top students and provide them with access to scholarships and resources that will help them complete their education and launch their career, without overwhelming your faculty or administrative staff. We can provide your students with additional learning resources and support and a self-contained honors system that makes your life easier, not harder. Learn more about the Pi Lambda Theta Direct Honors program and the specific benefits offered to members, or contact us at 800-766-1156 or pilambdatheta@pdkintl.org for more information.
What is the difference between the PLT Direct Honors program and the PLT chapter program?
A Direct Honors program allows education schools to provide additional learning resources to their students and honor those students at graduation without overburdening their faculty or staff. No other commitment is required beyond submitting a list of eligible students.
Some schools and institutions choose to take it one step further and host a local PLT chapter. Chapters are led by volunteers and have a faculty advisor, and engage in group activities and meetings at the discretion of the chapter leader. Chapters allow preservice and practicing educators to connect at a local level and share knowledge.
PLT members have access to all member benefits offered at the national level regardless of whether they join through a Direct Honors program or through a local chapter.
What types of institutions are eligible to start a Direct Honors program?
The Direct Honors program is best suited for education and teacher preparation programs at four-year colleges and universities, as well as teacher certification and credential programs.
What is the cost of setting up and running a Direct Honors program?
The PLT Direct Honors program is completely free for the school or institution that hosts it! The program is completely supported through membership dues and donations, meaning no ongoing cost to your organization.
