You may feel overwhelmed, but these six people in your school can make your life a little easier.
Teaching is a difficult and time-consuming job, but the rewards you receive from your students are unquestionably worth it. The good news is that in every school, there are people that you work with who can help to make your daily life much easier — but they aren’t always the people that you would think to ask for help. New teachers often feel as if they have to do everything on their own, but that makes your first year more difficult than it needs to be. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness. Remember that these people are paid to help you!
1. The school librarian is uniquely trained to help you with your classes. Each librarian was a teacher first before becoming trained as a librarian, so she can help you plan lessons, find resources for you and your students, brainstorm classroom management ideas, or add technology to your lesson plans. Another benefit: When you need someone to teach a specific concept like Internet safety, evaluation of websites, or finding resources for a project, the librarian can do it for you. Two teachers in a class always makes it easier than one, right?
